Uninor Shut Down GSM Operations in Four Telecom Circles


Uninor the joint project of Unitech and Norway telecom major Telenor whose wireless service permits has been canceled by the Supreme Court under 2G verdict, has begun its ‘Operation Shut Down’ in four telecom rounds – Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Orissa .

Some causes affirms that Uninor will shortly ask its users in these rounds to dock out their mobile number to another operator utilising wireless Number Portability (MNP) prior to the scheduled suspension of Uninor wireless services on 31st August, 2012.

Uninor has furthermore ceased some of its well liked STVs and exceptional boasts in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Orissa.

Earlier Uninor said that it will scale down GSM procedures in four rounds out of the total 13 telecom rounds where it is commercially hardworking to aim resources on the remaining localities like Mumbai, Maharashtra & Goa and seven other best accomplishing rounds such as UP East, UP West, Bihar and Jharkhand, Kolkata, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.

Uninor have time till September 7 to offer their wireless services in all 13 telecom rounds after which they will be forced to close down or closed down their procedures in case if they go wrong to get a new 2G permit and spectrum in fourthcoming auction of spectrum by DoT.

The Supreem Court in February called off 122 licences (inclusing all / Pan India licence of Uninor) handed out by the Telecom Minister A Raja in 2008 and asked the Government to perform new auctions by August 31.
