Airtel and Reliance Jio sign pact for international data connectivity

Reliance Jio in an effort to expand its international infrastructure has tied up with Bharti Airtel to share their submarine cables for international data connectivity.
According to reports, Bharti Airtel signed an Indefeasible Right to Use (IRU) Agreement with Reliance Jio Infocomm in which Airtel would provide Reliance Jio data capacity on its i2i submarine cable. The i2i, which is currently wholly owned by Bharti Airtel, connects India to Singapore using the state of the art cable, which consists of eight fibre pairs, each capable of supporting multiple terabits of capacity per fibre pair.

Using a dedicated fibre pair on the i2i, Reliance Jio will get an opportunity to extend its network and service reach to customers across the Asia Pacific region. The i2i cable has landing points at Chennai in India and Tuas in Singapore. The usage of the i2i cables would help Reliance Jio to meet the bandwidth demand and provide ultra-fast data experience to its customers.
